Terms of Service

These terms apply when you use the Pocketdown browser extension and this website (together, “the Service”). By installing or using it you agree to them.
1. What the Service does
Pocketdown converts web pages, articles, PDFs and video caption tracks that are already open in your browser into Markdown. It reads what your browser has already loaded and displayed; it does not bypass paywalls, access controls, or any technical protection measure.
2. Your content, and what you may clip
Anything you clip stays yours. We claim no rights over it and, for pages, articles and PDFs, we never receive it at all.
You are responsible for having the right to save and use what you clip. Copyright and a site's own terms still apply to material you capture — a personal copy for your own reading is usually fine, redistributing someone else's work usually is not. Do not use the Service to infringe copyright or to collect personal data about others without a lawful basis.
3. Accounts
Most of the Service works without an account. Video caption clipping beyond the first two clips requires signing in with Google. Keep your Google account secure; you are responsible for activity under your account.
We may suspend an account that is being used to abuse the free tier — for example by automating the creation of accounts or identifiers to obtain an unlimited free allowance. If we suspend you in error, email us and we will fix it.
4. Free tier and limits
- Clipping pages, articles, selections, page elements and PDFs is free and unlimited.
- Video caption clipping is limited to 5 clips per month on the free tier, of which 2 are available without signing in. The count resets monthly.
- Shared limits also apply to protect against abuse. These are sized so that ordinary use never reaches them.
We may change these limits. If we reduce them, we will say so in the extension before the change takes effect — not only by editing this page.
5. Pro subscriptions
- Price. $4.99 per month, or $49 per year. Prices are in US dollars. Any tax that applies is shown at checkout.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time from the billing portal, reachable from the extension's Settings. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for; we do not pro-rate partial periods.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails you keep access for a short grace period while you update your card. After that the account returns to the free tier — your data is not deleted.
- Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change affects an existing subscription.
6. Refunds
Payments are non-refundable. Subscription charges, including automatic renewals, are not refunded, and we do not pro-rate a period you have only partly used. Cancelling stops the next renewal — it does not refund the period you are already in, and you keep Pro until that period ends.
The free tier is the trial. Clipping pages, articles and PDFs is free and unlimited with no time limit, and the monthly video allowance lets you try the paid feature before paying for it, so you can decide without spending anything.
This does not take away rights you have by law. Where mandatory consumer legislation where you live gives you a right to cancel or to a refund that cannot be waived by contract, that right applies regardless of this section.
7. Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers. Stripe's own terms apply to the payment itself.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- attempt to defeat the free-tier limits by automating account or identifier creation;
- interfere with, overload or probe the Service's infrastructure;
- resell or redistribute the Service as your own;
- use it for anything unlawful.
9. Availability
The Service is provided as-is, without a guaranteed uptime commitment. Clipping runs in your browser and keeps working when our servers do not — if we are unreachable, clips are allowed through rather than blocked.
10. Third-party destinations
Where you configure the extension to send clips to another application or service, that transfer happens directly from your browser to that destination. We are not responsible for those third-party services, and their terms and privacy policies govern what they do with what you send.
Names of any third-party products are used only to identify compatibility. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by them.
11. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data — keep your own backups of anything important.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
12. Ending it
You can stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the extension, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end access for a material breach of these terms; where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the extension before they take effect, and the date at the top will change. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms.
